OOM: Pearl Repairs

The sky is cool, grey, and occasionally misting, but that just means when you are working hard you can keep warm enough.

And there is certainly plenty of work to be done. The deck of the Black Pearl has been cleared off, with debris and pieces that are large enough to reuse stacked carefully. All over is the gleam of cut and exposed wood, the splintered edges cut and smoothed in preparation for patching sections. One mast has been cleared of charred and torn sails and rigging, the canvas and rope set in one area to work on before it can be sent back up.

One of the current priorities, however, is fixing the stern section of the ship, the back wall of the captain's cabin, that took some of the worse damage from the kraken-

Scottish autumn nights can start to get chilly, afterall.

Party thread style, slowtimes more than welcome.

"They would more than likely call them that, yes." Wellard smiles wryly.

"Though it was quite a surprise to meet him here, and find they were true."

[identity profile] scourgeofpiracy.livejournal.com 2006-09-18 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"I can imagine. But... surely it isn't quite that long between our time and yours?"

[identity profile] politestpirate.livejournal.com 2006-09-18 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
He blinks, and then shrugs. "I and Mr Kennedy are both here from 1802, sir. Long enough for someone to write down the stories and get them printed, I'd imagine."

[identity profile] scourgeofpiracy.livejournal.com 2006-09-18 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"I meant for it to be forgotten that the stories are true."

[identity profile] politestpirate.livejournal.com 2006-09-18 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Wellard grins, and motions to the lake and then the bar.

"You've seen some of the things that happen here, sir? And the sort of people here as well? Would anyone believe you back home, if you were to go and speak of magic?"

He shrugs. "People don't quite believe in it, so telling of it is best left as stories."

[identity profile] scourgeofpiracy.livejournal.com 2006-09-18 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"I suppose so. I'm not sure even I would have believed it, if I hadn't seen it for myself. Sailor's tales..." He smiles slightly. "But you would be better not to take all Captain Sparrow says on face value."

[identity profile] politestpirate.livejournal.com 2006-09-18 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sailors' tales and childrens' stories." Wellard chuckles, then raises an eyebrow at Norrington.

"And how do you mean that, sir?"

[identity profile] scourgeofpiracy.livejournal.com 2006-09-18 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Just that some of the stories he tells you may be... exaggerated, let's say."

He doesn't even mean the ones involving him.

[identity profile] politestpirate.livejournal.com 2006-09-18 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"And some don't have to be." Wellard eyes Norrington.

[identity profile] scourgeofpiracy.livejournal.com 2006-09-18 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"I didn't say all of them were", he points out.

[identity profile] politestpirate.livejournal.com 2006-09-18 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Wellard purses his lips, and looks out over the Pearl.

"And this is one that certainly is."

[identity profile] scourgeofpiracy.livejournal.com 2006-09-18 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Norrington casts an eye over the ship in turn.

"...yes. This one is definitely true."

[identity profile] politestpirate.livejournal.com 2006-09-18 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"You saw what happened, then?" Quietly, still looking out over the ship.

[identity profile] scourgeofpiracy.livejournal.com 2006-09-18 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"No. No, I wasn't there at the time. But I see no reason to disbelieve what Jack says."

[identity profile] politestpirate.livejournal.com 2006-09-18 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
His lips twitch in a wry smile, and Wellard nods.

"... Not much to do now, except try to fix things up best we can. Right?"

[identity profile] scourgeofpiracy.livejournal.com 2006-09-18 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"I suppose so. That part of it that can be repaired."

[identity profile] politestpirate.livejournal.com 2006-09-18 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Wellard glances back over at Norrington.

"... Ships are easy enough, thankfully. Just a lot of work, is all. Work and research, unless a carpenter shows up in the bar." He smiles wryly.

[identity profile] scourgeofpiracy.livejournal.com 2006-09-18 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Perhaps there's one already here, if we only put up a sign."

[identity profile] politestpirate.livejournal.com 2006-09-18 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"-Might have to see about that, though I've not heard of one, or met anyone such as that either. Since before, I was working on building my own ship, and no one's ever commented on it in reguards to their own skills... Particularly if I was doing something wrong..."

He shrugs, with a quiet chuckle.

[identity profile] scourgeofpiracy.livejournal.com 2006-09-18 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"It might be that they just never came outside when you were", Norrington suggests.

[identity profile] politestpirate.livejournal.com 2006-09-18 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Right, then." Wellard nods.

"So, I can see about putting up a sign- if we're able to find an actual carpenter, to help."

[identity profile] scourgeofpiracy.livejournal.com 2006-09-18 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"It couldn't hurt, at least."

[identity profile] politestpirate.livejournal.com 2006-09-18 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
He nods.

"And, we just keep working on until we find someone. I've certainly gotten enough books on ship building- repairing isn't that much different."

[identity profile] scourgeofpiracy.livejournal.com 2006-09-18 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm sure we'll muddle through", Norrington agrees.

[identity profile] politestpirate.livejournal.com 2006-09-18 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Another nod, and Wellard looks back at Norrington.

"You're figuring out everything alright, then?"
