It is one of the few mornings left in the season that the weather is actually co-operating and being nice for a change. Meaning, a good number of people were up early, and out on the Black Pearl to get a full day's work in- at least while the weather holds.

For the moment, though, the morning sun is breaking through the patches of fog and low clouds hanging around the lake. There are the sounds of voices, and a few snatches of songs being sung while working-

However, not everyone is here that has said they would be.

As the fall has worn on towards winter, Jack Sparrow has grown more restless-- and more determined to see the Black Pearl fully repaired before winter's cold.

He paces out of his cabin and heads belowdecks, but soon returns with a scowl on his face.

"Where's Norrington?"

People are scattered all over the ship- with the Oompa Loompas down below as heard by their singing-

But yes, one former Commodore is conspicious by his absence this morning.

Wellard looks up from the cracked yardarm finally down on deck, as he was taking measurements, and shrugs at Jack, glancing around.

"I don't think I've seen him as of yet, this morning."

"That would be the problem, now wouldn't it, lad?" Jack snaps. He turns to glare out over the deck, swearing furiously under his breath.

"... rum-soaked self-serving sot of a man, thinks he's too good now to be of any help or use..."

Wellard takes a deep breath, shaking his head. "Or he's just somewhere." He mutters.

Well, there is not much he can do on the yardarm on his own, at least at the moment. The measuring cord, pencil and notepad is set down, and Wellard heads for the sea ladder.

It should not take too long to find Norrington and find out why he is not on the Pearl yet.

"...sulky damned misbegotten thief of a privateer!" Jack concludes, spinning around on his heel to face Wellard--

--who isn't there any longer. Jack blinks.

"Where've you gone to, lad?"

He starts toward the stairs belowdecks, but as he does he catches a glimpse of the young man making his way quickly across the floating pier toward shore.

"Mr. Wellard!"

Wellard pauses, turning back to give Jack a wave.

"I'll go look for him!" He calls back to the Pearl, motioning to the bar.

Cannot be too many places Norrington could be, this early. Odds are Wellard will run into him, somewhere. (http://scourgeofpiracy.livejournal.com/2772.html?thread=43732#t43732)

"Shouldn't be too long!"

And with that, he heads to the back door at a smart pace.

He just shakes his head as the young man disappears into the bar, then turns away and climbs up to the quarterdeck, where he turns his hand to restringing the rigging on the mizzen.

Some time later, as his attention is drawn from the task at hand by the darkening sky and the approach of foul weather, Jack realizes that Norrington still hasn't shown up, nor has Wellard returned.

He dismisses the volunteer crew for the day and goes back to his cabin, where he paces back and forth for several minutes-- but all in all, it's not long before Jack Sparrow heads down the sea-ladder and into the bar.
