Elda is curious, outside often enough, and the Pearl is quite hard to miss.

Jack dealt with one sea monster recently, and did have a tendency to shoot at zombie undead monkeys when startled.

To forstall one outcome that could happen when taking in all of these factors, as soon as Wellard spotted Elda next in the bar, he grabbed her to head outside to the lake.

(There is also the much more important factor that two of his very good friends should meet, anyways.)

Thus, one former british midshipman and griffin, standing on the lakeside.

"It's a lovely ship," she says a bit dubiously. "But it does look a little rough around the edges. What happened, and how did it get on the lake?"

Elda lashes her tail. "Well. That is a rather silly question, I suppose. Magic?"

"Ah- well. Have you ever heard of the kraken? A huge sea monster, that can wreak ships?" Wellard bites his lip, looking at the Pearl.

"That's.... rather what happened to the ship. As to how she got here... I'm guessing its quite one of those things that happens here at Milliways. So one sort of magic, rather."

"Goodness." Elda stares at the ship. "I wouldn't want to face one of those on my own. Your friend must be very brave."

She glances at Wellard. "You could fight a kraken properly in a flying ship."

Wellard blinks- and glances at Elda.

"... You rather could. Of course, all it would have to do is dive, and then you couldn't reach it any more. But at least your own ship wouldn't be at any risk, depending on how high you stayed, and how far it could reach."

Now there are quite a few ideas- and he will be noting them down later. Now, he gives Elda a bit of a grin, then cups his hands around his mouth to call to the ship.

"Captain Sparrow!"

He strides out of his cabin and toward the rail, calling back,

"Hello, lad--"

Jack stops mid-word, staring at the creature by Wellard's side. Black eyes gleam with sudden wary interest.

"... son, you've a beastie with you."

Elda has had enough of people calling her things like 'creature' recently. 'Beastie' is not an improvement.

Her voice is quite loud. It carries a long way.

Wellard facepalms, then quickly puts a hand on Elda's shoulder.

(Not as if he could really stop her from doing anything, but hopefully for some sort of calming reassurance.)

"-he just doesn't know. Hold on-" He mutters to her, then turns back towards the Pearl, giving Jack a bit of a look.

"Hardly, sir- this is Elda, one of my friends from the bar here."

After a huff and a rustle of her feathers, she calls back: "It's all right, sir. It's only recently a rather sensitive subject!"

Several moments of shuffling around for the right position follow, until-

Wellard has never been flying.

On board ship, he was up in the rigging as much as possible for an officer. The wind and open sky had his respect, but not his fear.

Flying is quite completely different- even if it is just a short trip from shore to ship. If there ever was something to help his resolve to put a ship up in the air-

Now being able to say that he has flown- that would be it.

Wellard is grinning when the two of them reach the deck of the Pearl.

"Permission to come aboard, sir!" Elda calls down to Jack. That was something her father pounded into Elda and her siblings. When landing on ships, always call out when you're coming down. Even if you aren't really asking for permission.

She carefully sets Wellard down on the deck and lands lightly next to him.

Both hands are resting at his belt, and if one's near his pistol, it might be a coincidence. Jack looks relaxed enough, anyway, as he says to Wellard with a quick grin,

Wellard glances at Elda, then looks up to the masts and the tangle of broken yard arms, black sails and ropes. There had been some vague plans on how to get all of that sorted to begin work-

Plans which he quickly mentally revises with the idea of Elda being able to help from above.

"Some of the clearing was going to take us quite a lot of time, as a lot of the lines to get up to work on the sails are... well. No longer there." Wryly.

"If you don't mind helping, Elda- that would quite do a lot for us to start on. All you would have to do, is the rope and sails, whatever's tore or lose, just get it free and let it drop. ... Provided we aren't right underneath at the time."

"We'll warn you." Wellard nods to Elda, then steps back as she takes off.

Its a tricky bit of maneuvering, to figure out where best to stand to watch Elda, and yet not be hit by bits of rope and rigging that soon come falling down. Even trickier is Elda having to maneuver her wingspan about and around the torn remnants of black sails.

But, carefully, and bit by bit, Elda manages to free the loose ropes, letting them drop down to the deck below. The main topsail and course both took too much damage to stay up-

They both come fluttering down.

It's funny, really, how the rippling sound of cloth falling swiftly through the air is eerily like the sound of wind in the sails.

Until, that is, they crash heavily to the deck, draping a little over the starboard rail in the process.

Jack's ashen under the deep brown of his skin, and one hand makes a quick helpless motion before clenching into a fist at his side-- and then in the next moment, he's moving with quick sure steps to where the black canvas lies, torn and marked with burn and char from the explosion he triggered.

Slowly, without a word to either Wellard or Elda, he takes hold of one end of the fallen sail and begins to gather it up.

Elda carefully lands on the very top of the main mast, with much hovering and fluttering of wings. She leans into the slight breeze and poses like an absurd figurehead.

He heads over to the pile of rope, seeing what pieces are long enough to work, then sets about tying some slip knots in the ends.

"If Cotton didn't leave his repair kit behind, sir-" With a glance over to Jack. "I can get one from the bar. Certainly more dye as well, to get those in top shape so we can get them back up as soon as we can."

The figure she calls out to them is somewhat garbled by the wind, and the fact she is still quite high in the air.

But after a few moments, Elda comes in for a landing on the deck. Carefully avoiding sails and piles of planks, she sets down next to Wellard with a thunder of wings.

"Teach me the knots, then. It is a nice enough day to sit, just as much as fly."

"She'll figure it." Wellard grins at Jack, then nods at Elda.

"Rather close- and we'll want extra length on the lines for other things as well. And... Its probably easier to learn the knots then how to magic them, really."

They are not trying to send the Pearl to the Moon, really. Or even Mars. Wellard picks up some of the longer sections, and settles down on the deck to start going over splicing.
